How does the GP-1971 fish finder compare to the FCV588?

I recently talked with a gentleman who bought a GP1971F, replacing an older exsisting FCV587 that was already on the boat when he bought it. He had called to let me know that he was quite happy with the fish finding performance so far within the Puget Sound, and was looking forward to using the unit with the plotter function when he moves the boat to SE Alaska.

The GP1971F unit is currently connected to an existing transom mount transducer that is older than ten years old, and thought that he was getting better return echoes than the FCV587.

So far, he loves the unit. :cool

Thx but I’m looking for a more technical answer. Where can I get the technical specs of the GP1971 finder finder ;TX rate, pulse length, sensitivity as shown in all Furuno Fish finder manuals? I’m space limited on my new station console otherwise I would continue to use my old 585 (needs to be repaired).

Here you go:

FISH FINDER
Transmit frequency CW: 50/200 kHz, Chirp: 40 to 225 kHz
Transducer Power rating: 300 W, 600 W or 1 kW
Transmit interval 2000 times/min.
Pulselength 0.04 to 3.0 ms
Sensitivity 10 dBV
Range Display range: 5 to 1200 m, Shift: 0 to 500 m
Picture advance speed Stop, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1/1, 2/1, 4/1
Other functions ACCU-FISHTM, RezBoostTM, Chirp, Bottom discrimination

Hi, is the airmar ss175h transducer a unit that can communicate with the gp1971f?

Thanks

Andy

l had FCV 587 last 6 years , now l replace with GP 1971 F , after second trip unit dismantled and send back ... Very disappointed in cartography , fish finder performance can not be compared with FCV.
Touch screen not user friendly at all, for fishing purpose . (FCV much better)

We are certainly unhappy that you had a bad experience. I'm not sure where you are located so I can't comment on the cartography. Hopefully you did insert a C-Map 4D card.
Reports here in the USA have been very positive. I hope you resolved the issue with your dealer.

C MAP 4 D Full, Eastern Europe ,Mediterranean Sea are not very happy with C MAp cartography , vector chart also very poor , to bad for us here that GP accept only C MAP .

TZTL 2 have a option for Navionics cartography what in that unit here is other dimension ..
Why GP does not have same possibility ? ( Only C MAp)

Our forum was developed to help answer questions for our customers here in the USA. While we always try and provide answers or suggestions for those folks in the ROW, there is a limit to what we can accomplish. I am not familiar with the chart area you mentioned and would suggest that you contact C-Map directly to address your concerns. The GP1871/1971 series was developed as a small stand-alone plotter/sounder. It was developed in conjunction with C-Map and will not use Navionics. Our TZT series uses MapMedia charts who have adapted some of the Navionics database for certain areas.
