GP-1871F won’t turn on

Splash screen comes up and goes away but nothing happens after. Also unit will do this about every 5min. Very seldom will the unit boot up completely.

Hello,

Do you know exactly how much voltage you have going to the unit? It sounds like you might be dealing with low voltage issue.

If we can verify you are getting at least 12 volts, I would try another power source to confirm if the issue may be with the unit or the source of power.

11.95 to 11.5 where it currently is drawing from. 12.4v at the battery. I’m going to move it to a different power source and see if that fixes it .

Something I might also have you try is turning on the unit without the chart card, if you have a CMAP chart card plugged in. Sometimes having a bad chart card can make the unit not want to boot properly.

Is the shield of the power cable properly grounded as shown in the interconnection diagram? If it is, you might try removing it in case the ground has some level on it. If not grounded, it should be. If you can't get it working then the unit might need service. While you voltage levels are low for a normal battery or charging battery it should be fine. Although that voltage measurement should be done with a load applied because if you have no AMPs behind that voltage, the unit won't work.

Ok, I’m at my boat now to move the wiring to a better power source and try the suggestion of removing the c-map card. It’s as you said, it will boot every time like normal if I pull the card. I can install the card and 9 times out of 10 get the black screen of death. But then Remove the card and instantly boots up.

Is it safe to say I need a new card? Or is there an update for my current one?

Yeah, to me it sounds like you have a bad chart card. How long ago did you purchase that card? I would recommend working with who you purchased the card from or contacting CMAP directly.

ISSUE FIXED

Just an update. I replaced the 4D chart card with a new one from C-Map and it boots up flawlessly now thanks to the recommendations on this forum!

Absolutely great folks on the Furuno forums. The best units and customer service in the business! Period. I have a new GP1971F with a C-MAP 4D. Exceptional plotter and FF with my P66!
