GP-1650 PLOTTERSOUNDER

Had internal battery replaced at Factory in Camas, WA. When installed unit on my boat had to try to re-set all the functions. I had not much luck in determining what options for my cruizing area (Puget Sound/Canadian inland passage waters) my unit should be set up with.

Can you list what the set up should be for my area ? Unit worked flawlessly before the internal battery went out and trying to re-set it from the manual had too many unknown options.
Thanks for your assist.

Yes, unfortunately if the battery goes bad, it loses all the user settings. What exactly are you trying to setup? Sounder? GPS type? Loran C?

the GP1650 is an old unit that has experienced roll over so the date will always be wrong.

The unit uses a coxal GPS antenna and when connected there is really no setup needed, it should pick up satellites and provide a fix. When the antenna has clear view of the sky, does the SAT Status screen show it is picking up anything?

Yes, the unit shows from 3 to six of the satellites' and strength of signals. But in some areas of the San Juans the notice"SIGNAL LOST' COMES ON. Usually a re-start of the unit will gain signals, some times it just regains in a few minutes. I increased the height of the GPS antenna so a clear view of the horizon is unobstructed.

Here's something to consider about this GP1650:

Where has the antenna been placed all these years?

Furuno's Installation Manual for the GP1650 notes the following about mounting considerations:

Any one of these 7 conditions needs to be considered, or else it could account for this antenna behavior. If it's been installed in the radar beem, near VHF, etc. it's probably time to replace the antenna as well (part no.: GPA-017).

Hope this helps, :sail
