FURUNO AUTOPILOT AND MERCURY 400 V10

Mercury has gone proprietary from my understanding. We can not drive their drive by wire steering, if it is their steering system. Unless it is a dometic optimus or other more common steering system, you would have to go with their option pilot. The Furuno MFD can send steering to their pilot by 2000 but if it is using the Merk steering, neither of our pilots will work for you.

Hi @Johnny Electron has there been any updates on this, now a few more of the Mercury Electric Steering getting around? Can't find much information on this.

Looking at a Mercury (400 V10) Electric Steer with Mercury autopilot module, along with 2xTztXL. Can the MFD send routing information to the Merc autopilot? Or will a Furuno Navpilot module be required as well? Curious how to best tackle this configuration.

The Furuno pilot can't drive the Mercury steering system as they have gone proprietary. The TZTXL should have no problems driving the proprietary pilot though. You will need to go with their pilot recommendation.

Many thanks for that as want to go TZTXL for sounder and radar capabilities, but want to ensure can still have autopilot on the boat. So if I understand using a TZTXL should be able to do basic routing and waypoint navigation to drive a Mercury pilot and electric steering?

Also would features on TztXL such new AI Routing and Fish-It/Drift-it work with a propriety pilot, or require a Furuno pilot and signal chain?

Yes, the XL features will work and the Furuno can drive the pilot. The proprietary relationship of the steering system is between that and the pilot. The relationship between the MFD and the pilot follow basic NMEA 2000 communications.
