Fi5001 onnection

Hi,
I have been given a FI5001, it has no display. Can I connect is direct on NMEA 183 into Maxsea?

I figure it needs 12v power but am not sure what it outputs? As it was given to me I would rather not put many $ into something that may be a dud.

The FI5001 is designed to connect directly to the FI501 or FI502 instrument. It is NOT NMEA 0183. If not connecting to the FI501/FI502, it is connected to the IF-NMEA2KFI to provide NMEA 2000 data to a NMEA 2000 bus/network.
