fcv585 not reading temp-FIXED!

I have upgraded my sounder from a 582 to a 585. The 582 read the Airmar p66 triducer fine, but the 585 does not read the temp in the triducer. I gone through the set up screens three times. I have reset the factory settings twice. Where am I going wrong? Thanks for any help, Nick

Nick,
The FCV-582 used three cables i.e. power, transducer and speed/temp. It used an eight pin transducer plug. The FCV-585 uses two cables. One for power and one that has 10-pin for the transducer/speed/temp. We do have 8-pin to 10-pin transducer adapter cables but you are going to need the correct y-cable so you can input the temp sensor, do you have that?

Also how are you trying to view the temperature?
If you defaulted the settings you need to turn on either the Data Box or Temp graph.

My Airmar triducer has a ten pin connector specifically built for Furuno sounders. The Furuno fcv582l had no problems reading the triducer.
I did set up the data box for temp and one for speed via paddle wheel built into the ducer. Do I need to set up temp graph also?

Nick,
Your original post mentioned the FCV-582 not 582L, The 582 used 8-pin where the 582L uses 10-pin transducers. The most likely cause is that the temp thermistor in the transducer has failed. If you use an ohm meter and measure between pins 4 & 7 you should see around 10K ohms.

You also may want to confirm that the display is looking for the correct source. For your example please confirm that the temp source is set to "own."

Nick,
If you are 100% sure your transducer is OK you will need to take your 585 into a service center
to go any further.

Repairing at a dealer would most likely have them wanting to replace the main board and not be cost effective for you. The Furuno service center can do some component repairs and most likely would cost a less to have this problem fixed if they can. You can ask your local dealer what they recommend. I would recommend sending it into Camas.

I was able to fix the sounder by replacing the smaller connector interface board. Took it out of another sounder that had a de-laminating screen. These 585 units are notorious for that!
