FCV295 with R99

I have a friend with an FCV295 and Airmar R99 who has always been using his sounder only at 50 and 200kHz. In the specifications both at Airmar and Furuno it states only 50/200 although they also say broadband. Can his unit work at other frequencies? If yes, what is the range for both low and high frequencies?

Thank you

Although the sounder can operate on different frequencies, the R99 is a 50/200 transducer so your friend has to stick with those fixed frequencies.

Rmenendez,
We have never really tested the R-99 outside of 50 or 200Khz, but if you want to try it feel free to do so. If you want to try I would first re-tap both frequencies to an "A" tap.
The FCV-295 is blocked out from transmitting above 52.6Khz so I would reset the 50Khz side for 42Khz and a Bandwidth of 21Khz. This will allow you to slew the frequency 31.5 to 52.5Khz. On the high set know that the FCV-296 is blocked out from transmitting in the 171-183 range so I would set the bandwidth for 34Khz. This will allow you to slew the frequency from 183 to 217.

Thanks Snips. Will tell my friend so he can try. Will let you know if it works, and if it is a benefit working with these frequencies. He was not aware of the multi-frequency capabilities of his FCV295 and I mentioned that 130 kHz was very good for squid. Is this so?

Thanks,

Rolando

I have never tested 130Khz for Squid so I can't say. Just know that the FCV-295 is blocked out from working in three different bands; 53-65, 111-139 and 171-183Khz.
