FA40/70

The TZ3 brochure mentions an FA-40/70 but can’t find any info on those units.

Are they available?

Are they the newest version of the FA30 = FA40 and FA50 = FA70?

Phil

Correct, these are the successors to the FA30/FA50. They added NMEA2000 and for the FA70 the new network protocol (from the A-class tranceivers) giving a bit better broadcasting performance as well as more transmitting power (5 instead of 2 Watts).
Here is a link "https://www.furuno.com/en/products/ais/FA-70"
I think they are still pretty fresh so availability may be a problem.

They will release a bulletin to dealers once enough stock has been made available. I think we are 6-8 months away from any release in the USA.

Just saw the new FA 70 on the Furno Homepage, so far so good.

Well, all this AIS Units are not transponders, they are "only" Transceivers. People knowing the difference can be misleaded.

Of course Furuno know the market and design their products accordingly. But from my point of view the integrated splitter makes no sense for some potential customers. And what I really miss is the connectivity via Navnet, it has "only" N2K.

Furuno USA likes to intro new products in conjunction with the major boat shows like Lauderdale and Miami. My guess they are holding for the Lauderdale show but have been given no information on an official release date. I would expect it to be "soon".

For a private 60’ boat, in not heavily trafficked marinas and cruising ground, is there a reason to pick a FA70 over a 40? And if a 50 is still available, should that be considered?

FA50 is no longer sold by Furuno USA but there might still be some in hands of dealers or can be found on the used Market. The FA40 is receive only and a good choice if you do not wish to transmit. The FA70 is newer standard with higher transmission power than the FA50 both of which is a transceiver which will transmit your boat infomation.
