Tuning alarm at 1.5 miles .
Alarm goes out at 2 and above miles
No returns even from a cruise liner at 2 +miles,
and weak return from 2 miles and gets better
as it gets closer but still weak .
Very weak returns only from smaller
vessels that are close .
Weak returns from or no
returns from 2 miles and less

If this is a newer unit, then I recommend you look around the radar scanner because you might have something reflecting RF energy back into the scanner making it tune way down. It is a lot like having someone keep screaming into your ear; eventually you will either plug your ears or go deaf.

If the radar is older with a lot of hours then your magnetron might need replacement.
The rain and/or sea clutter could turned up coupled with maybe a weak magnetron. The magnetron is a wear item. They don't normally suddenly go bad. It is typically a slow degradation like a light bulb going dimmer and dimmer until you get very little targets (mostly only the large ones show) and longer range targets are hard to pick up. Sea clutter and rain filter work somewhere around the first 8 NM, so if they are turned up it can allow targets further out suddenly to dim as they move into the effective filtering range.

I missed the "Tuning error" you had in the main title. That pushes my thoughts closer to a magnetron or MIC problem in your scanner. I think this one will need to visit with your dealer or Furuno repair center.

It’s 3-4 years old with 150 hours on it .
There is an anchor light support pipe 3/4 inch
diameter , and a plastic housing hailer horn about
2 feet in front

Then it likely isn't reflections then, but keep in mind horns do have a magnet and metal inside. You can try do a hardware reset under the radar menu to see if it helps. Normally if it is tuned down by reflections it will bring it back to life and slowly tune down again the longer you run it. If the reset doesn't help then it is time for it to visit a dealer. By the sound of it is most likely a failure inside the scanner.

Hi . Well it is working . It appears that
the sea and rain settings were the cause ??.
Why would the TUNING ERROR show up?
Thanks ,
Have other issues which I have posted.
I have a detailed sketch of how the system
is connected, and I have a photo of that .
Is it possible to send to you. All sensors
and units are shown. Wiring harness
numbers are not.

I would need to see a photo. The pipe as long as it isn't large like a big mast probably wouldn't be a problem.

Hi again . Well it’s not seeing good again.i turned it on
briefly today and checked the gain rain and sea settings
and turned off filters to no avail. There was no
“radar tuning error” this time.
What is the mic issue as per your previous post?
What part would need to be sent ?
Could I send you a short video or photograph?

I recommend you open a support case with tech support to look into your case further or contact your local dealer. A MIC is a microwave integrated circuit. These are not user replaceable. Parts like that should be replaced by a qualified tech, IF it is bad.
