Drs12a with tzt14 no echo trails

I have a drs12a with tzt14 I could not see echo trails roto key. I finally found that i had to enable full roto keys not base to see controls but my echo trails button in grayed out along with clear trails button. i tried both radar tx mode and standby but there still grayed out ! :sorry

Do you have your source of heading turned On?

I have a gp330b antenna no auto pilot compass. heading up mode on the chart display. Where do I check the heading mode?

Heading normally comes from an autopilot, Sat Compass, Fluxgate Compass or Gyro.
If you bring up a data box for heading, I think you will find yours is blank.
COG (Course Over Ground) from a GPS like the GP330B is not heading.
