Dodge mode

How does a 6232 dodge controller work with a 711 AP? What I mean is: when in NAV (or Auto) mode, what do the buttons on the 6232 do when pressed? When held?

I haven't seen any doc to know how this controller works from a user-prespective.

The 6232 remote (FUSA p/n FAP6232) is a non-follow-up remote. It allows for a temporary port/starboard deviation from the course that it is following when in NAV mode. Once the button is released, the pilot will bring the vessel back to its programmed course. If the pilot is in AUTO, it will change the set course degrees to your new designated course. We typically call it a dodge controller because it acts exactly like the dodge buttons do on the main control head.

Can you expand on this? In Auto mode, I understand that the course is changed by the buttons. In Nav mode, what actually happens? When you press the button does the course change at a certain rate then when you let go it resumes that Nav course? What does the arrow button do?

The ops manual explains that it will dodge by 1 or 5 degrees based on your established settings. When released, the pilot will resume the Navigation either by course or crosstrack depending on your established settings. (go directly back to original course line (XTE) or go back to meet up with course (course).

Are you referring to this manual, or is there something just for the remote?

Here is the only explanation I found there:

I was talking about the normal dodge buttons on the main control head. Any remote will depend on if it is a follow up or non-follow up controller.
For the remotes I normally recommend this document besides the manuals. https://www.furunousa.com/-/media/s...rfacing_and_installation/nfu_and_fu_final.pdf
This thread is about the FAP6232, so that is what I was referring to. I've read that document before and it doesn't clear much up. Do the dodge buttons on this remote duplicate the dodge buttons on the 711C? What does the arrow button do?

The FAP6231E is a non-follow up remote. When holding the port or starboard button it will move the rudder in that direction. When you let-go, the rudder will go back to its programmed course. You are commanding the rudder movement with a non-follow up remote, the upper button on the FAP6231E is “HDG Keep” was designed to basically cancel any course to steer that has been set into the pilot and holds the current heading where the button is pushed (Like AUTO mode), but not sure if that ever got fully implemented.
The FAP6232 is the exact same thing as the FAP6231E expect it has open wires designed to connect to the processor rather than the connector for connecting to a junction box. The dodge buttons on a REMOTE are not that same as the more advanced function dodge buttons of the pilot controls. We rarely see these in the USA market. Normally special Jastram or special helmsman remotes are used.
