DFF3D spatial resolution

First post to this forum. Excellent knowledge base by the way.

Does anyone know what the spatial resolution capabilities are with the DFF3D, i.e. what is the smallest lump (size and height) that can be resolved in the 3D PBG software? Assume DFF3D 165kHz multibeam transducer and satellite compass corrections are being applied. Cheers, Bas.

Basumal,

The DFF3D’s data point resolution is roughly about 4.9 ft (1.5 meters) when using a Furuno Satellite Compass in junction with the DFF3D's Motion Sensor.

As a comparison, the WASSP that is the bigger brother to the DFF3D and is a commercial fishing multibeam system has data point resolution of about 1 ft (30 cm).

Following up to this question (also a first post) because I haven't been able to figure this out after reading through the WASSP & DDF3D documentation.

Does the data point resolution for the DFF3D and WASSP F3 scale as a factor of depth? Is the ~ 4.9ft mentioned for the DFF3D with an SCX20 go up as depth increases? Or is that universal throughout the depth range of the system? (e.g. 4.9ft object at 30ft deep, and 4.9ft object at 300ft deep).

FishHunter,

The Data Points for both the DFF3D and WASSP will always remain the same regardless of the depth. However, please note that they will be farther apart with an increased depth, and this can lead to some decreased resolution.
