Good morning Mamasso,
Thank you for your inquiry. I will try to explain, a normal fish finder has 1 beam width and 1 angle. The beam angle is simple, it is looking straight down on most occasions, the beam width is fixed and is determined by the transducer, elements, and frequency. So on a normal fish finder you get beam width that is fixed looking at an angle that is straight down.
With the DFF3D you get to play with 3 different beam angles. You can choose to have the beam angles look in different directions port to starboard. The DFF3D also allows you to control the beam width for example. You could set the beam width to 20 degrees, meaning the width of each one of the 3 different beams is 20 degrees port to starboard. Then you can choose what angle from the vessel port to starboard to point them in.
We do not get to decide or change the forward/aft beam width or forward/aft beam angle.
Kind Regards,
C-Bass
