CM54 Installation

The unicorn of transducers arrived (special order, not much mention of them online). A generic 1 page instruction sheet came with the transducer. I am going to glass up the pocket then take it with me to get installed.

1. I plan on installing it on the flat pad near the transom - any issues that anyone sees? (I wouldn't think so)

2. The sticker on the transducer says "wet box only". Most pocket mounts I see have very little clearance (1-2 mm) for water to cool the transducer. What does this sticker mean other than the obvious don't wrap the transducer in fiberglass and don't tank mount it in the hull?

3. What part of the face is flush with the hull? The transducer face or the step? (I need this info to glass up the pocket) Also, if the step is flush with the hull, that means I will have a bump out protruding from the hull which I was trying to avoid in case it came in contact from the trailer. It shouldn't ever hit but if for some reason I loaded off center, I wouldn't want to hurt it.

Separate question:

I bought a B60 as my "standard" transducer. But, I'm reading that straight down, the CM54 can read to almost 1000'. Is there too much overlap in capabilities (<1000') that I should have gotten a B164 to pair with my TZT2 12"?

West Coast USA, Southern California, I'm basically only interested in info from <1000' when fishing pelagics even though we transit deeper water.

Starbright55,
Normally the face of the transducer should be flush with the mounting plate you are going to be using to secure to the hull.

Yes, there is going to be some over lap on performance. Which is going to be better is going to depend on your fishing depth. Shallow <150ft the B-60, >than 150ft the B-164.

I'm trying to figure out where the face of the tranducer in relation to the hull. #1 even with the hull or #2 even with the hull?

4. Which way is forward on the transducer? There are no arrows printed on top of the transducer and the instructions are silent as to the orientation.

(since the bolt hole pattern and the wires aren't symmetrical, you can't turn the transducer 180 degrees after the pocket is glassed into the hull)

Starbright55,
The big cable is forward.
The transducer orientation can be corrected in the transducer set up menu if mounted backwards.

On the orientation, thank you. I read the DFF3D manual yesterday and didn't see a mention of being able to flip orientation - I figured it might be possible since Navico allows it with their side scan transducers.

I called tech support - they said #2. The face is flush, not the lip.
