Antenna for 4850

Hi,

Looking for advice on an antenna for the 4850 that allows both VHF/DSC TX as well as AIS Rx. I see that Shakespeare has a 5225-xt-ais here https://shakespeare-ce.com/marine/product/5225-xt-ais-galaxy-aisvhf-antenna/. Is this a good option to support AIS Rx without impacting VHF range?

Yes that should work just fine. It should receive well because it is cut for both functions.

What antenna does Furuno recommend for the FM4850? The boat is a 31 Bertram with a half tower which the top is about 20' above the waterline.

There any many good off the shelf choices in the USA. Because the AIS of the radio is receive only; you don't need to have an antenna cut specific to AIS like you do for transponders. You can buy any good quality VHF whip.
