I would like to add a louder external buzzer to my 711 control head. Things can be noisy in the cockpit and the built in alarm often is missed. Is this possible? Is there a resource to guide me to do this? I had the impression it was as simple as connecting to a terminal on the control head.

Yes. In the processor unit (FAP7002) connector TB4 (General Out) you can connect up to two external buzzers or lights. We can handle up to 30V, 3A current draw on the External alarm outputs.
