After having just dodged a 10 foot log in the Pacific, I was thinking about how the Dodge button works, or rather how it doesn't really work for it's named function.
How about a Dodge 1 and Dodge 2 where one push of the button turns 45 degrees for x number of feet or seconds, then parallel the previous course for x feet or seconds, then back to the course. The Dodge 2, two presses of the button, does the same thing but 2x the distances for larger obstacles.
Crab pot float, press left Dodge once, boat turns 45 degrees left for 25 feet, then parallel for 50 feet and 45 right then back to original course. The numbers should be programmable, different distances and angles for different boat sizes.
