For the GP1971F, you can use either a "CW" 50/200 kHz Dual Frequency Transducer, or a Single Frequency Chirp: 40 to 225 kHz Transducer in 300 Watt, 600 Watt, or 1kW configurations. You must choose to use a CW or Chirp Transducer, but you cannot use both with the GP1971F.
The speed that you can use a GP1971F all depends on where and how the transducer is mounted and what turbulence that transducer is subjected too. If you have a good water flow over the face of the transducer with no turbulence, then you can potentially get good sounder return echoes at 30 knots.

:furunoI have a TM185M paired with my GP1971F - it took a few trips to get the mounting location tuned in. But, after some minor tweaking and some patience, we are able to get solid returns up to about 25 knots. Anything faster than that and the livewell/raw water scoops that are forward of the transducer cause a little too much turbulence.
Overall, very happy with the readings we get with the TM185M.
But, we wanted more. We decided to install a 600w Thru Hull B60 transducer and place it right between the livewell and raw water scoops...then we elected to pair it up to a dedicated fish finder (FCV628) with the sole purpose of reading bottom while underway... This thing is absolutely money for finding new spots offshore while cruising between known locations. This setup consistently reads bottom and finds ARS Christmas tree marks while doing 30+ knots.
Now, we use the B60 on the FCV628 for reading bottom underway and the GP1971F and CHIRP to get a better image of the bottom and fish in the column.
Bottom line, its all about finding clean, undisturbed water for a properly mounted transducer.
