i am having an issue with my 1871 shutting down intermittently.

i have digital voltage meters readily visible and am not having a voltage spike or drop.

last scenario- turned 1871 to the on position after 5 mins it shut down then no issues for the remainder of a 3 day trip.

on previous occasions the unit has shut down after a couple of hours of run time then worked flawlessly.

is this a software issue?

No software problem. Furuno USA has only seen one unit fail out of all the units we have sold. If your power is indeed good, I would recommend you get with your distributor to have the unit bench tested.

I have had some freezing issues. The fish finder randomly froze once and a second time the entire unit froze. Hard reboot brought it back online. I’m keeping an eye on it. So far I wouldn’t call it a problem. After all, it is a computer and that kind of stuff is bound to happen with all the processes that are running.

Update-

took unit to authorized furuno dealer. Found the sd card i was using was causing above issue with the unit. sd card sandisk 32gb.

The unit is acting up again. I read in another thread that cmap had some corrupt cards that was causing a problem.

Was here lot number associated with this?

If there are serial numbers, C-map hasn't shared it with us. From what we have seen, the maps either work fine or A) prevent the unit from turning on B) don't show mapping. We haven't seen it be intermittent. I suppose it is possible but it hasn't been what we have encountered thus far.

ok thanks

unit is taking a long time to boot, and initialize then for no reason just crashes. No voltage surge no extra inputs just flat out crashes. then reboots. I only use the unit as a chart plotter. im using the 0183 side for the autopilot, fcv 295 and 1731mk2 nav data.

the only recent significant event noted is that the crash occurs at or about an hour of operation time.

could any feedback thru the 0183 communication be an issue?

Excessive sentences?

I would first check the wiring of the power cable. The fused wires go to the power system but it is very important that the cable shield wire go to a good grounding source. If you have no good ground, then the shield wire can be taken to DC neg with the fused negative wire. I have seen problems if the ground wire is left open. If you suspect the chart card, you might try running it without a map for 24 hours to see if the problem is gone with the map removed. NMEA 0183 bandwidth at 4800 can support about six to seven sentences. Turning on more than that will cause undesirable affects but I don't think it would cause what you describe.

working fine now after running without a map or card.

it spools up in about 1 min without a card and takes about 3-5 mins to initialize with a card.

Then it sounds like a bad card or card reader. I would suspect the card as the most likely from what we have been seeing.

contacted c map. sent old card in and i received a new card in 2 days. stood behind their product.

No issues so far.
