Need some clarity on pairing Furuno's 1T with an 1870F. Wanting to go 1kw while utilizing the Bottom Discrimination Mode. Based on Furuno's accessory page, the 1T is the only option I have since I have an aluminum hull. Is the 1T designed as thru hull? If so, is a fairing kit available? Lastly, the 1T is supplied with a whip only. What do I need to complete the makeup?

Thanks in advance..

Digdug1221,
There are a couple of ways to mount the 1T. The 1T was designed to use the CDT-603 transducer tank. If you do a Quick Search you can see the tank configuration. The other way is to make a bracket off the transom. Personally I prefer not to mount transducers on the transom due to the performance issues. Let me know if you have additional questions

Thanks Snips. The CDT-603 tank seems like a bit of work in comparison to basic tilted thru-hull. Snips, in your opinion, will a 50/200 Airmar allow the bottom discrimination mode to work? Secondly, what allows specific Furuno transducers to work with bottom discrimination mode and others not?

Bottom line, I want to use an 1870F for my aluminum skiff but want to make use of bottom discrimination feature without having to place a transducer in a can. I want to use a traditional thru-hull and be done with it. Perhaps, its just not possible..

Digdug1221,
I agree, the CDT-603 is a big tank for a small vessel but I wanted to show you the tank that was designed for it. It doesn't need to be that big but it won't be a simple task either. I have seen some aluminum vessels cut out a box in the hull to recess the transducer. The 1T is then mounted on a plate which is bolted up into the box. If you are considering doing this you want to pick a location as close to centerline as possible.

Your question about why some transducers work and other don't is a good one. First the transducer has to be dual frequency. The BD mode uses both 50 & 200Khz to classify the bottom. Second the 50 & 200Khz elements need to be in the same transducer housing, this makes sure like are looking exactly in the same direction.
