1715 Radar Question

My boat has an older 1715 radar. Can someone advise what minimal equipment I would need to get heading data displayed on this unit?

I have an NMEA 2000 network but I'm running another brands CP's. If I'm not mistaken, the 1715 only supports NMEA 0183 which I don't have. I don't use the radar that often, but when I do I'd like to know bearing contacts relative to my position.

Suggestions?

Do you have a heading source already on your NMEA 2000 bus? If so what device?

^^ No sir I do not, but I've been thinking about getting a Garmin Steadycast. Unless you can suggest a better alternative.

Seems like a good value device. I wouldn't trust it to run a pilot, ARPA or anything that needs higher quality heading but it would be fine for the needs of the 1715. To get the NMEA 2000 to 0183 you need I would suggest the Furuno IF-NMEA2k2 or the Actisense converter. Once you have heading and position on the 1715 you can get cursor lat/lon and see either of the data in a databox if you wish.
