Temporarily power up a TZT3?

Red and black to the battery but screen flashes. What else needs to be done to operate correctly, so I can get familiarized with the system and try and upload existing waypoints?

The power should be Red (+) and BLUE (-). If connected to suitable 12 or 24vdc power source with enough amps, the unit should beep on power up and then work with nothing but the power cable connected.
