Points vs. Event Marks?

I'm struggling to understand when to use Event Marks as it seems they're mostly identical to Points? Looks like Event Marks log everything as a point with the addition of water depth - is that the only difference?

When/Why do others use Event Marks vs. Points?

Also, the operators manual (4-1) Note 2 states - "Points can be shared with other NavNet TZT3 units via LAN...." - does this mean that Event Marks are local to the machine where set and not shared on the LAN?

The book says,



In General, an event is any user defined "something happened I want to mark" thing from the other screens (e.g. from the fish finder, radar, MOB, etc.) that isn't an explicit "goto waypoint."

Dumb question, I was out fishing and dropped several points. Can these be easily converted to marks?
