"Auto" chart selection

How does the "Auto" setting work for charts selection? Are there any ways to help it do a better job?
I would like for the TZT to switch from my inland navigation chart to the offshore charts with better contour lines after leaving the inlet and then switch back on returning to the inlet.
Thanks

Auto attempts to pick the best available from loaded Navigational charts it doesn't switch or consider fishing/bathy charts. Whenever looking at bathy you much switch chart types by swiping up and changing the selection. The only exception is overlay data like CMOR that can be turned on while running it over your navigational charts. Unlike other platforms, Furuno is the only one that allows you to choose the underlying chart below the CMOR data.

What defines "best available"? For example in an area I have current NOAA vector and raster and 1-2 year old C-MAP. Auto seems to select C-MAP in preference to the newer NOAA data.

What is the underlying logic here?

Thanks.

I was just about to post this question, not remembering I had done so last year. I see I never got a clear response as to the underlying logic. 2nd time the charm?

I'm personally not comfortable using Auto without understanding how it operates.

The underlying map is based on the scale the chart was originally written at versus the range the operator has selected. Charts are always most accurate at the scale of the original survey for which they are written. Auto while giving the most accurate at the scale selected might not be the most feature rich option and at that point the operator can force their choice. Nothing wrong with manually selecting which chart you prefer.

I think the date can also play a part. The developers don't give us all those types of details. If it is really important for you to know, I will ask the parent company and revert. They are out for golden week so it will be awhile.

Here is how the parent company says AUTO works. Yes, noted that Navionics is no longer offered but some still own older licences. This applies to TZT-TZTXL for MM3 charts. For new XL TZ Maps, there is no AUTO abilities. You must select your preference.

[AUTO] has the following priority order of MM3D charts.
1. Vector (Unlocked C-MAP > Unlocked Navionics > HOs such as NOAA)
2. Raster
3. Fishing

Notes:

(1) This has not been changed since the function was added in 2012 with the TZT9/14/BB v2.01 and later.
(2) Production dates and other factors are not considered in the priority order.
