Wiring with Ethernet and NMEA2000

In an installation of 3 TZT3 MFDs, should they each be connected to the NMEA2000 backbone, or is it sufficient/preferred to connect only one?

All 3 will be connected via Ethernet, so this question really asks how/if they can share NMEA2000 data between themselves via Ethernet.

Reviving this year-old thread for my new install...

We are removing a NN3D system...MFD12 x2 and a MFD8.

New system is a TZT3 19 and TZT3 12.

Do we need to keep the HUB-101 or will everything work over NMEA 2000?

We also have a DRS25A-NXT(new) and a DFF1(legacy) that will be aboard. Any thoughts/guidance appreciated.

Thank you.

You'll need both networks.
Ethernet for sounder/radar, NMEA2000 if you use heading sensors or other nmea2000devices.

Check the version of the network hub101. On the board at the top right will be a board number and a dash 11, -22, or -55. If it is a -11 0r -22 don't use it on your TZT3 system. The older NN3D hubs are too slow for the TZT3 and it would be best to replace with a low cost off the shelf hub like a netgear. TZT systems don't use power sync and HUB101 isn't needed unless running 24v and I then still wouldn't recommend keeping the -11 or -22 on anything but a NN3D system.

Johnny,

I believe our HUB-101 is 2011-vintage, so I am not optimistic that it will meet our needs. Your product suggestion is appreciated.

Just to be clear, we will be connecting two TZT3 units, a DRS-NXT unit, AIS, SatCompass, wind, and a DFF1 together. What I am not understanding is do we NEED the HUB-101 network/ethernet or equivalent?

Thank you for the continued excellent support. This is one reason I selected Furuno!

One ethernet on the MFD will go to the hub (ethernet switch) so that it may communicate with the sounder and the radar and other MFD.

NMEA2000 data doesn't do radar or sounder pictures but is nice for sat compass, wind, AIS. It doesn't go on ethernet (yet) as the standards are very new for onenet and products are not yet available for that.

If you don't have NMEA2000 network, Something like the Actisnse A2K-SBN-2 would be a compact reliable and simple way to connect those things and the MFDs together.
