Morning ladies and gents,

Does anyone have any real life experience with using WASSP as a fish finder? Ie, how does it compare to something the FCV 295.

In particular, do you know what it’s like at detecting fish like sea bass / striped bass, snappers, cod etc off to the sides of the swathe in say 40-60m of water?

Many thanks!

Wahoo,

The WASSP is a black box multi-beam sonar that employs a wide-angle Sonar transducer (either in 160kHz or 80kHz configuration) that provides high resolution information of any fishing environment. It utilizes Wideband CHIRP technology with 224 beams in a 120 degrees swath from port to starboard that scans the water column and seafloor, making it possible to find fish schools within these reefs, wrecks, or other seafloor changes.

The WASSP is continuously receiving multiple depth readings of the seafloor in a swath beam that is up to 3 times the depth below and behind your vessel so you can see exactly what is happening on the seafloor and within the water column in real-time.

Majority of the WASSPs are being used by commercial fishing industry as an innovative tool for efficient fish location and seabed profile surveying. However, more and more sportfishing vessels are now equipping their vessels with the WASSP.

Please be advised that the WASSP does require a Satellite Compass and Spatial Inertial Navigation Unit, (or INU), to provide precise pitch, roll, heave and yaw information. This allows smaller vessels that are more susceptible to these forces to fully compensate for these effects, providing a stable beam width.
