usb or card slot?

I am installing my new TZT3 16's and I see Furuno has a USB to Card slot that mounts in the dash. I also know there are USU to USB dash mounts available.
Is there any advantage to the card slot over USB?
I am guessing I will need a set up for each TZT3?

The SDUs are no longer available, what we recommend for what you're asking for is a marine quality USB to USB extender.

Note* never install the MFD in a way that it cannot be removed for maintenance though. Likely for basic file manipulation USB is all you need, however for less frequent jobs like updating the chart card, you will still need to be able to access that card slot somehow.
