As the title says my TZtouch2 randomly will shut off after a couple hours of usage.

No idea why?

Connections are all seated, software is UTD, and unit is not operating hot.

Not sure what could be causing this?

Based on your description, I would guess over or under voltage is a problem. You might ask your dealer to test it on a bench with a known good power source.

Thanks for the quick reply Johnny - I'll reach out.

I have other units (Gamin, Fusion, etc) on the same power supply and they don't have this issue.

The other strange thing is that after it shuts off I can turn it back on and it will boot up, but will not stay on for longer than about 5 minutes.

rgr3co,

I had the same issue as you do for a while on my installation. What it turned out to be was a faulty short stop breaker between the batteries and distribution panel. Somehow it was either dropping the voltage or tripping and resetting just enough to cause the TZT2 to reset. I replaced it with a brand new Blue Seas Short Stop and the problem went away.

I don't know if your boat has that type of breaker in its system but it might be worth a check.

One of my units does the same thing after long hours of being on. Only difference is mine will cut on and off on it's own and even dim the screen (which dims the other units on the system). It will even go into the factory menu on it's own. I've sent it to furuno and they claim they cant find an issue. Been doing it for 2 years now and since it's out of warranty I just deal with it. I can pull the fuse and let it set for awhile and it will work fine for a few hours again. I've hooked to other power sources and even swapped power wires with my other unit that doesnt have issues and it stays on the same unit. Furuno blames my system even though I've done all of this to disprove that. Now it's out of warranty and without coming out of pocket several grand to replace I'm stuck so I just deal with it.

syrupdawg, If you are a Furuno USA customer, I recommend you contact the service manager and talk over your case history. It might be a grounding loop or something else you havent found. There comes a point when cases should be elevated beyond the normal technical support.

I've had the same random shutdown/reboot issue on one of my units almost as long as they've been installed (mid-2016). I happens about once on each trip. I have two TZT2 12" units installed side-by-side and powered from the same breaker and connected to the same ground.
I was hoping that this 6.21 release would have a fix for some random issues like this but I don't see anything like that in the update notes. As such, I'm not eager to go through the cumbersome upgrade process since there is really nothing of interest for me in the new features that are available.

There is normally a reason for the grief. If you haven't worked with Tech support to resolve the issue, I recommend it. If you spend much time reading the forum, most everything has a path to a good resolution. If you just ignore it, I promise it won't solve itself.
