I have Qty 2 TzTouch3-19" MFD and wanting to know if I could upgrade by simply buying qty 1 TZTBBX and use the existing displays for the monitor only.

you would need a tztbbx for each mfd that you would like to have it on. in your case qty of 2 one for each tzt319

Would the TZTBBX as displayed on the TZT3 16 or 19 look and behave exactly the same as on a regular monitor assuming the HDMI and USB connections are in place to support touch control?

I was thinking of swapping out my TZT 3 16s for TZTX. I did replace the TZTL 12 at my tower helm with a TZT10X but it is noticeably less bright than the TZT2 or TZT3s. That is confirmed by the specifications, which show 900 nits for the X versus 1000 for the TZT 3. It would be nice to keep the brighter screen but get the functionality of the XL.

yes if the monitor is rated for the required connections it will function just like your tzt3 functions or you can keep your tzt3 units and add a tztbbx threw the hdmi ports and usb connections. keep in mind that you will need a tztbbx for each mfd that your looking to upgrade.

there is a tztxl FAQ under the documents folder that has a wealth of information in there. Cheers!

I did this with a 19 TZT3 but instead of BB went with Lenovo micro pc M80Q. Running TZ Professional. Very happy. Also have it running on Salon 50 inch tv.

Time Zero Professional is quite expensive by the time you add the modules that would give all of the functions of a TZTXL black box. The cost of the software and a suitable PC would be very close to the cost of a TZTXL BB. At least that was what I concluded. There may be some advantages to running on the PC since you can probably have a faster processor and more memory, as well as the possibility of displaying on multiple monitors.

If you just want access to the new charts, a much cheaper option would be to use the recreational TZ Navigator software, which is much cheaper. But you would not get something comparable to the TZTXL black box.

I looked into this and concluded that replacing the TZT3s or using one as a monitor with a TZTXL black box was a simpler path. But I haven't decided whether it is really worth it. I connected my iPad with an HDMI cable to the TZT3 and I can use TZ iBoat app to view the new style charts. Cheap and easy way to get the new style charts and especially the new bathymetric charts, which are quite good.

@Quitsa Personally I am going the laptop/microcomputer route as I have 2 boats with the TZT3 ecosystems. I can carry that device between the 2 boats. If I only had one boat, I would probably be looking at this through the same lense you are. On the TZT3 displays I believe that only the 16 and 19 inch flavors accept the HDMI inputs.
