TZT2 not sending speed to 711C Autopilot?

Two new TZT2 units installed - working fine. They are now on the same N2K network as the Autopilot (711c/FAP7002/PG700). I have defined the TZT2 units as source1 and source2 in the Nav source setup page on the 711C but when I try to engage the autopilot to simply hold a heading I get an error about "No Speed Data Available".

Why isn't the autopilot getting speed from the TZT2 unit?

Thanks

What is your GPS source? Have you configured the pilot "sensor setup" to look at that source under SOG (speed over ground) setting? If using only the internal GPS of the TZT2 as your primary GPS source, have you turned on the proper PGN output items?

Wow, come on Furuno. I have the latest and greatest gear from Furuno installed. I have the N2K network setup correctly and everyone can see everyone else. I have configured the NavPilot Nav Source as the TZT2 unit and you are now saying that I need to tweak the output sentences from the TZT2 unit so the 711C can understand the data being put on the network by the TZT2? OK, but really?

Every install is different and the unit allows the user flexibility to turn on and off the PGNs which are provided. Just dumping all PGNs onto the bus isn't something that would be beneficial. If you want TZT2 to output the one of the PGNs, you just turn it to ON. If you haven't done so, then it is most likely the reason your pilot isn't getting the SOG.

Just getting to the installation menu to check/setup the sensor list on the 711 is non-trivial. It cannot be accessed from the regular setup/parameter menus. I had to spend 15 minutes reading the manual again to find out the that getting to that menu requires a special top secret sequence of button presses. Why???!
BTW - I did turn on speed and position sentences to be output on the N2K bus from TZT2 units but the NavPilot still does not see that data even after restarting.
Guess I'll just call support tomorrow. It's very frustrating and I don't consider myself "technology challenged" - I'm a software engineer. It should not be this hard.

Well, after talking to support we have it working... kind of. I say "kind of" because the NavPilot now sees the TZT2 unit and can get speed and position and a course can be set. Unfortunately even though the TZT2 unit "sees" the 711C on the network it fails to engage it after I answer "Yes" to the "Navigate to Waypoint with Navpilot?" question.

I had problems setting mine up as well, same setup as you. I found that I had to have Sensor Sync on.

Interesting... I was told by the Furuno tech on the phone to turn that OFF. Maybe I'll try it ON.
Thanks!

I am not sure if that will alter the "Navigate to Waypoint" behavior or not. When I initially set mine up I was on 2.X firmware and I had sensor synch set to off and manually defined the incoming Device/PGN to be one of my TZTL15F units and then went on the TZTL15F under settings >initial setup > NMEA 2000 network and turned on the appropriate sentences.

This worked fine until I upgraded to firmware 3.01, at which time I started having problems with the 711C throwing an alarm "Position Source Are Changed", and "Speed Source changed"
then I would press any button and the alarm would stop and it would continue working.

I tried pointing it to the other TZTL15 unit, and made sure that only one TZTL15 was outputting NMEA 2000 sentences at a time. Still no luck, I was randomly getting the alarm. It did not appear to affect the pilot's ability to steer but was super annoying.

I then upgraded to 4.01 firmware and that came with a new display where you can operate the 711C from the TZTL15 screen. That all worked but the random (and frequent) alarm persisted. I went back through the setup (Wrench button + click knob 3 times as you mention) and changed the sensor synch to on after having read somewhere that that option is compatible with the TZT2 units. I am not getting the alarm anymore and all is working. I am not sure why support recommended against that option. What firmware are you running and have you tried the diagnostic mode from within the 711C setup? Perhaps it might give a clue.

My TZT2 units are running 4.01. I'm also seeing some random behavior as you describe. I really want the AP to communicate with just one of my TZT2 units but I'm not sure if that is possible since both are on the network. I have tried to specify the Nav source on the 711c to be only one of the TZT2 units but I'm, still seeing warnings, etc. on the second unit too.
I'll futz around with it some more this evening if possible.
