Two issues with my new sounder.
Slow scroll speed and weak returns from depths over 400m.
Every thing works up to 400m then scroll slows and unit loses the bottom .
Included are pics of my base settings and some screen shots.
Boat was on the drift in calm sea conditions. Battery voltage 14v with outboard motor running.
Trans is in a box shoot tru hull solid fibreglass construction.
best results was on auto fish >400

Good morning Gregg,

Thank you for the photo. It appears one reason you are seeing a loss of performance is due to turbulence. Looking at the photo you see gaps in the bottom picture, when you see those gaps there are bubbles affecting the transmission/reception of the fish finder. Another observation, you can see the bottom echo, bottom, tail, noise on the screen all change color, the colors of the bottom, bottom tail, and noise should stay close to the same color if the gain, TVG, Pulse Length, Transmit Power are not changed. Question, did you change the gain settings while this picture was taken? If you did not the color changes are another example that your fish finder is being effected by turbulence. Sometimes turbulence does not completely block the transmit/reception of a fish finder, sometimes it is just enough to decrease the sensitivity of the sounder. We get questions all the time about a fish finder not being able to see fish when it can see the bottom clearly, often times it is turbulence that is affecting the performance.

Unfortunately there is not much we can do for in-hull transducers. Those transducers have to fight much harder to get good performance. They are not wet faced so you don't have a fairing block to divert turbulence around the transducer. They also have to transmit through material which will effect overall output power, and you could get frequency shift of the signal.

I am sorry but looking at the photo i don't think any settings will change the performance dramatically.

Ok thanks for the reply. I'll try running the duce on a pole in clean water to test your theory. I'm still concerned about the slow scrolling. So slow that it seems to stop so unit is turned off to get moving again?. More testing this week. I'll pay more attention to recording settings and scroll rates. More photos etc. Cheers

Didn't get round to pole mounting the transducer. Last trip out was getting poor returns from over 500m at troll speed and tried the system reset and then got good bottom returns with fish sign at over 1000m.
