TZT 10 X very noisy cooling fan

I just bought a TZT 10 X mfd for our 50 foot sailing boat, and the cooling fan is very noisy, to noisy to live with in the relative quit weelhouse

Does anybody else experience this problem ?
thanks for your help

Furuno acknowledges this issue. Ive spoken directly to them about fan noise when calling for another tech reason. They don't consider it a flaw.

I returned my TZT 10X to the dealer, as we can not live with this in our wheelhouse,
Now looking at a just Furuno FR10 radar display with our DRS2D-NXT radar.

Does anybody know if FR10 display this has a cooling fan inside ?

thanks for the feedback, much appreciated

The FR10 does not have an internal cooling fan. Because the NavNet TZtouchXL CPU is so powerful, the internal cooling fan is required for the processor.

Update you software this issue has been addressed and I believe another update is due out this month which will also address the issue by slowing the fan speed down

This is a brand new unit and uses the latest software, I would be very interested to hear if there is more new software that can slow the fan speed could one of the moderators of somebody else confirm this ?

This unit came out last summer I put the 13x in my boat in July. I am a marine electronics technician and I was told this by furuno at a training seminar on the furuno xl’s in December. The latest update is due in February. But the issue has been addressed in the last update. I chose not to install it on mine because that was all it addressed and the noise on my boat was never really an issue

thanks for your reply,
soo you are saying that if i update to the last software that the noise of the fan is reduced or going away ?

According to furuno yes! That was the purpose of the last update. I think the one coming out in February updates more than just the fan noise. We update ours on the bench before we install them so I can not verify the difference before and after. It’s more of an issue on sailboats and boats with quiet enclosed cabins mine is an outboard so I never noticed the excessive noise Just make sure you backup your info (waypoints, routes, etc and follow furuno’s instructions for the update

My Furuno dealer has just updated my TZT 10X to the latest software, and the fan is just as loud if not louder then before.

It is hard to believe that a reputable company like Furuno puts out a product with such an obvious fault in it.
I'm sure I won't be the last person on a sailboat to complain about this.
I have given the unit back to the dealer who is still hoping to find a fix. but I have to start looking, however reluctantly to other manufacturers

With hex core processor in an area that gets hot, the fan will run at full speed compared to the 30% speed at turn on of that of a cool machine. In a closed in area without engines or other sounds, I can see how it might be more of an issue for you than on a power boat particularly when it needs to cool the processor and LCD. Backlighting can pull amperage and create heat so dimming it down and other actions might have make some difference to keep the fan running at the slower speed. They have been making changes in the software so hopefully your feedback will assist them on tweaking it more. Fans do make sound. At some point is better to have some level of sound than burn up the unit, but your points are well taken. I will ensure development sees this post. Maybe you just have a damaged fan.

Thank you Johnny,
The unit starts making the loud noise as soon as it has booted up without it being connected to a radar or anything else, and it never stops or slows down, even with the new software, it is on the bench out of the sun at the Local Furuno dealer who has been very helpful but is also getting frustrated with this new model.

It *is* pretty darn loud. I thought there was something wrong with it when I first turned it on. I immediately googled the noise and ended up here. At the end of the day it's not a big deal for me because I really only fish offshore and don't turn the motors off. If I were on a sailboat though it would definitely drive me nuts.

Yes it is loud, the dealer checked the fan speeds and they are all normal and within specs, so no damaged fan.
it is just noisy and there is nothing that can be done about it, and it is not something we can live with, it would drive me crazy.
