TZ2 not finding GPS satellites

For past week my 3 month old TZ2 will not find GPS satellites sometimes after waiting over 30 minutes while underway. Creates alot of stress and problems navigating in new places. What do I check? I am using built in GPS antenna. Have hardtop and unit is surface mounted. Never happened in first 3 months. Do I need an external antenna and if so what model?

Removed the TZ2 from surfaced mounted panel and tilted it forward and started it. GPS worked immediately. Guess I will have to mount it on a bracket.

The GPS receiver is typically located around the "FURUNO" logo on the display monitor. If it gets covered up by the installation, than it further hinders it's ability receive the very scarce GPS signals coming from various position satellites in space.

The next step is to explore a small NMEA2000 backbone (if you don't already have one) and add either the NMEA award winning roof top mounted SCX20 heading sensor, or at the very least a small compact roof top mounted GPS Receiver (GP330B) that would plumb into the TZ2 by NMEA2000.

Reliable GPS is like reliable VHF, most of the time you don't think about it until you need too.

Hope this helps,
