Is it possible to remove the two data cables on the right rear of the TZ12 for winter storage so I don't need to cut the wires? Can't find the procedure in the manual. Thank you, Rick

Good morning Boatpro2,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Typically the wire bundles coming out of the TZT2 12" unit are hard wired into a PCB inside the unit. It would not recommend to remove those wires internally.

Can you please take a photo and post it to this forum thread so we can get a better idea of the exact wires that are terminated that need to be removed. If they are NMEA0183 data wires they would likely be able to be cut. But we would like to see exactly the wires you are talking about.

Hopefully, the attachments come through, but I believe you answered the question indicating these cables are directly attached, so no removal. This seems like a mistake for those of us who would like to remove the GPS for security purposes. Thank you for the prompt reply. Rick

Thank you Rick for your photo,

Unfortunately it does not show what devices are connected to the wire bundle. The wire bundles contain the following inputs/outputs.

Video Output: HDMI: that is not a permanent plug in so if you are using the HDMI port just unplug it.

Video IN: The two video inputs use an RCA type connection which can also be unplug, so if they are being used, just unplug them.

USB: The USB connection uses a standard Type A connector which is not permanent, it can be removed if this port is being used.

Network Port: This uses a standard Optical 8 Connector also referred to as RJ45, this is not a permanent connection and can be unplugged if the network port is being used.

Multi-Port: The Multi-Port wires are typically split up at installation and wired to a terminal strip which makes them removable. If the Multi-Port on your vessel was not installed that way and the wires are crimped or hardwired to the other devices that use NMEA0183 Output ect then they may have to be cut, just leave enough of the wire so they can be re-installed hopefully with a terminal strip next time.

NMEA2000: The NMEA 2000 Port which is where the GPS is coming in on if the internal GPS is not being used also uses a connector that is not permanent. The NMEA2000 connector can be unscrewed.

I am having a hard time trying to figure out what cannot be unconnected easily enough so you can remove your unit?

Can you provide photos of the ports that have connections that are permanent?

Boatpro2,

C-Bass is correct, I am willing to bet the only connection to your TZT2 that is "semi-permanent" is the Multiport Connection. :(

All other connections like the Transducer Connector, Video Connections, USB Connection, Network Cable, and the NMEA2000 Cable should and are easily disconnected.

The pictures you supplied only show the wiring coming out of the hole and are going directly to the TZT2. The rest of the connections you need to look for are under your dashboard where the TZT2 is mounted. :)

Hope this helps..?

Fortunately, the only wires I am using from the two bundles are the 2 NEMA 0183 wires to my antique Radar. And, the TZ12 interfaced nicely, thanks to a little wiring help from this forum. As suggested, I should have used removable connectors and will do this. Being an old retired salt, the electronics budget allowed 3K for the TZ12 this year and 3K+/- for a real radar, depth, and back up camera next year. Just need a little help telling me which Transducer to order to get depth, temperture, and speed? I would like depth and temperture, speed is optional. I am not an avid fisherman so I don't need the best fishfinder money can buy. Just an average bottom detail will be more than adequate. Very much appreciate the prompt and accurate responces from this forum. Thanks, Rick

Good morning Boatpro2,

Since we got this topic figured out I would recommend to posts another topic in the fishfinder forum about transducer recommendations for your TZT2 product. Please include the a percentage of how much you fish vs how much you use your boat not fishing. Also include the average depths that you like to fish at and the target species of fish.
