Transferring AIS info to my ipad

We have had an FA-50 unit on our boat for about 12 years and continue to be quite pleased with it. It is mounted at the nav station below deck.
I have recently been cruising with my iPad in the cockpit to make the occasional glance at the chart, and am starting to wonder about getting data from the F-50 to appear on the Navionics app on the iPad.
Other more current unit’s have either wifi built in or can be connected to some appropriate interface that will do this.
Is the FA-50 just hopelessly too ancient technology for this, or is it doable at all?
If not, you can’t blame a guy for trying.
If possible, I would appreciate gear suggestions and possibly a link to the “ how to.”
Thanks

You might talk to the guys at Digital Yachts. They make a lot of items designed for ipad connection. I would make sure it does dual network so you can join more than just AIS (like DRS4W) if you wanted. I have heard of people using the Vesper xb8000 and actisense products too. Maybe someone here has a similar setup that can make you a recommendation.
