Splicing power cable for the GP1971F

New to the forum, what's up all?

I will be installing my 1971F this weekend. Any tips on splicing the power cable? I haven't pulled back the outside of the cable yet. Is it just a white and black wire?
I'm at work, so I can't look at the cable until tonight.

RED +, BLACK -, and an outer braided shield and some interfacing wires for NMEA0183 data IN and OUT.. Are you splicing to extend the cable or for fishing through conduit?

Thanks for the reply. I just needed to get power to the unit. I did red to one of my empty switches and black and the shielding cable to ground.
I don't have anything setup for NMEA. I tested after the install, it's working great.
