SMD Connection to TZT3

I've got a TZT3 connected to a Suzuki SMD12 on my boat. I've been looking into the unlocking of the "Furuno" modules on the SMD12 and can't get a straight answer on who owns the ability to issue unlock codes to access the radar and sounder modules on the SMD. In a perfect world, I'd use the unlock to be able to see my DFF3D or my Chirp on a split screen of the SDM, but I can't get any intel on if that's possible, or even how much it would cost.

My Suzuki dealer says it's a Furuno thing, my Furuno dealer says it's a Suzuki thing. Anyone have any insight on how to proceed?

Thanks!

The Suzuki product offers unlock MODULES for supporting Furuno sensors that can be purchased from any Furuno dealer. The Furuno dealer has likely never sold one so not familiar. The radar module is currently $500 and the sounder unlock module is $500. If wanting to purchase both, they offer a combo deal for $750 (https://www.furunousa.com/en/products/smd_rad--sndr_uc) Ultimately, you might have larger concerns as the Furuno TZT3 and Suzuki SMD12 are likely not compatible together on the same Ethernet. Suzuki software is years behind the similar Furuno TZT2 units. While it is possible to run Furuno TZT2s with TZT3, they have to have equivalent/compatible software levels. You would need to check with Suzuki but I don't think you can run the SMD12 with a TZT3 on the same network. The software is just too different and I don't think they are compatible. While it is possible to run it with the older Furuno TZT2s as long as you run the older v6.22 software, newer software versions and TZT3 would be so different you are likely to go down a rabbit hole of problems that no one can solve because it shouldn't be done. I can tell you that Furuno dealers can sell you unlock modules for the Suzuki SMDs so they can talk to the radar or sounder(s).

Agreed SMD12 can not be on the same network with TZT3 and expect things to work correctly. If it was mine, I would run the TZT3 for the sounder/radar/chart plotter and use the SMD for the engine display and maybe cameras etc. They can share data via 2000 but can't share chart system IDs or be on the same network.

Awesome, thanks for the advice and information. I won’t worry about getting the unlock codes at that rate, seems like there are better ways spend money!

I will say it is disappointing to hear that they won’t work together on the same network, I would have gone a different route but I suppose I should have asked here first. Camera on that display will still be a good option moving forward.

Appreciate your guys’ expertise!
