small piece of foam

When the array is removed from the pedestal, I have noticed that in the small rectangular window there is a small piece of foam. Some units have it some do not. Is that small piece supposed to be there?? In a new install do you recommend leaving it alone or removing.

Yes, the foam keeps out the dust and other ugly items, yet is electrically transparent. Removing it doesn't hurt anything, excepts it does open up it up for more chances of dirt and other items getting into the waveguide.
