Scx-20 to FCV-1150 through NMEA 2000 network

SCX20 to NMEA 2000 backbone feeding TZT3 displays.

NMEA2k2 convert from NMEA 2000 network feeding data to FCV-1150.

Do you follow same protocol for port connections and NMEA0183 settings as you do for the SCX21 to the FCV-1150 ?

Yes, transmit data to receive data, crossover protocol. Transmit data is "TD", receive data is "RD". 1 is port one, 2 port two. For instance, IF-NMEA2K2 output must go to the same port on the FCV-1150.

IF-NMEA2K2------------------ FCV-1150
TD_A Pnk----------------------NMEA 1 or 2 RD_A
TD_B Pnk/Blk------------------NMEA 1 or 2 RD_B

If you want to convert the FCV1150 water depth and temp (if available) for output onto the NMEA2K2 bus:

IF-NMEA2K2---------------------FCV-1150
RD_A L Blu/Yel----------------NMEA 1 or 2 TD_A
RD_B L Blu/Grn---------------NMEA 1 or 2 TD_B

Thanks Titanic.

I currently have all connections exactly as you described. I am sending depth and temp to my TZT3 units no problem.

I was most curious how to setup my NMEA setting on the menu of the FCV-1150 to ensure I continue to output Temp/depth while properly receiving heave data. I already configured the the SCX-21 on the FCV-1150 for its location and the transducer location. I just want to make I am getting my NMEA settings correct.

Titanic, thank you very much for this. This is as thorough a response and anyone could hope for.

I am sure this will help other people as well.

Thanks again for taking the time to do that.

I configured tonight and my issue was that I did not have the IFNMEA-2k2 set to high speed. Port monitor did not show heaving data on the FCV-1150. I cut the orange wire, reset the IFNMEA-2k2 and all was good. BUT I lost the output of depth to my TZT3 system and most likely ocean temperature as well. I assume the FCV-1150 output these sentences at 4800 bps so with the converter in high speed they are not being sent to the N2K network. I have plenty of 2K2 converters so I am going to add a second tomorrow. One will send and receive 0183 data at 4800 bps to port one on the FCV-1150 and the other will only send sentences at 38400 bps to port 2 (FCV-1150 only receives on port 2). I will set the nmea port setting to in/out as I believe this only changes port one (spots 1 and 2) between talk and receive. Port two (spots 5 and 6) is always just in. Please see my attached interconnect diagram and let me know if you think there is any issues with my plan.

Your diagram looks great. Yes, the NMEA2 in is sat compass and fixed at 38.4kBPS. The NMEA1 is IN/OUT and fixed at 4800. It is not very clear in the manual because it only mentions the baud rate for NMEA2.

My other 2k2 converters had different colors. So i made an updated diagram for anyone to use that shows how to connect an FCV-1150 to a NMEA 2000 network so it can send and receive all accepted PGNs including SCX-20 sat compass. They are attached in PDF and JPG

Thanks!
The wire colors on the IF-NMEA2K2 did change during the production run. The newest IF-NMEA2K2's have the PNK, PNK/BLK, Lt Blu color scheme.
