saving large groups of GPX marks with the same icon

I am trying to figure out the best way to save large batches of marks so that they all have the same icon. I have multiple save files from many years and I want to distinguish between newer and older imports. Some are actually Loran conversions. I am thinking , save a backup first then delete all my points from the MFD. Then, import each group one at a time and give them all the same icon then export. Rinse and repeat with each group then finally import each group again. My tzt3 should have each group with their own distinguishable icon.
If there is a better way please let me know.

The system won't accept duplicates with the same lat/lon and same name, regardless of icon. Back in the NN3D days, it would happen and it caused issues as the points stacked on top of another, other layers deep. If I were doing it, I would try to have someone help you that has TZ Pro software and do it with a PC, unless you have your own. Next would be using a program like Seamarks (andren software) that can support many formats and would allow you some powerful editing skills. While the MFD will let you bring in sets, it overwrites not merges, if I recall correctly. This is one of the primary reasons to us something like TZ Pro.

Due to my using it in a pre-TZT3 Furuno MFD, I use a mark naming system to easily identify types of marks. So anchor spots all start with an "A" (e.g., "A1-JONES" for anchor spot #1 in Jones Bay). Hazardous rocks start with "R", buoys with "B", etc etc. (I use OpenCPN for most of this.)

TZT3 allows you to very easily sort alphabetically, and then assign a specific icon (e.g., a green anchor) to all the "A" marks. etc etc.

(Prior to getting my TZT3, I used GPSUtility program to sort and assign icons, then save in Furuno NNv2 .ROU/.RATformat. Now much much easier to sort and edit on the TZT3.)
