"pin compatible" sounder with 582L

I have a new boat (2005 Farallon 2600 diesel) with a Navnet Vx2/42" open array radar and a standalone 582L connected to what looks like a 1kW transducer (still looking for identification). Size is the reason I suspect 1kW. In any event, the 582L resolution is Ok, not like my previous boat's FCV587.

The install quality on the new boat is fantastic, all wiring is zip tied, labeled, routed, sealed, clamped etc. Any chance of upgrading the sounder without having to undo the existing wiring/ducer? Is there a way to connect a 627/587 directly? I prefer a standalone sounder, but I suppose the Vx2 could take a black box?

Kirk,
Both the 627/587 use the same 10 pin transducer as the 582L. However your existing transducer may not be compatible with the ACCU-FISH and Bottom Discrimination modes. The power connector will be different than the 582L.

Snips,

As I expected, thanks. The power cable is routed just behind the dash area so would be easy to swap. I cant find the ducer tag anywhere on the cable that i can easily see. The cable says Airmar, of course. The external high speed block is probably 20" long and the face area of the ducer looks like a 525, as does the high speed block. That said, it's the vintage of the boat, probably installed with the 582 in 2005. I expect it to not have accu-fish and bottom discrimination.

Is there any other identifying marks on a transducer in the absence of the original cable tag?

Kirk,
You should be able to identify the transducer by looking at the face of it. If you have a B-258 the face will be the shape of a football. If it is a B-260 it will be shaped more like a tear drop. Hope this helps.

Thank you, Snips. :respect What I have looks very much like the photos and description of a B-258.

Kirk,
Unfortunately the B-258 isn't in the FCV-587 data base for the AF and BD modes. It will work fine as a fish finder however.
