I've got a NavNet Vx2 system that I'm upgrading to a TZTouch2 system and one question I have is regarding my heading sensor. I have a PG500 and I know that I could use the IF-NMEA2k2 converter and keep my existing heading sensor with the new system. However, before I go that route, I'm curious if there are any benefits to upgrading to a PG700?

I made the same swap from VX1. I bought the PG700 heading sensor. It works very good and was easy to set up. I used the nmea-y2k to communicate with my Icom 604 VHF and Simrad AP 24.
Using the NMEA 2000 is a lot easier than 0183 to nmea 2000.

If your PG500 is working, it would offer you a bit more flexibility to convert the 0183 to 2000 and keep it. That way you could still use the other 0183 data and AD10 data for anything older you still might have, while also providing NMEA 2000 heading (via your converter).

Interesting, I hadn't thought about that, but great point. Based on that, I take it there's nothing significant to be gained by upgrading?

The PG700 is a little bit less picky about surroundings and I think its specs are higher but it only puts out MAG heading. The PG500 has the ability to put out TRUE heading if needed. Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages. In this case the cost of a converter much easier on your wallet.
