Noob qtn: Charts

Am at a disadvantage, my dealer went under, so figuring out this stuff myself...

Quick noob qtn: The TZTL15F MFDs came with some sort of charts on them. One has been set as the “Chartmaster,” and the software has been upgraded successfully to 6.21. Are the charts provided sufficient? or should I supplement what comes with the MFDs with a third-party chart provider? What is the ‘normal’ practice? I’m in the Great Lakes.

I know this is a “duh!” question for veteran’s... be kind!

If you stay on the USA side of the Great Lakes, the pre-loaded charts should work fine for you. Although you might want to check for newer chart updates if your unit is an older one. If you go into Canada, you would need to purchase a licence to something suitable because NOAA doesn't chart Canada. The Canadian HO office is not paid by their tax payers like the USA. They get paid by selling the chart data they collect, hence there are no free charts for Canada.
