New models NXT radar in the works?

patch

Does anyone have any info on new, soon-to-be-released, NXT radar....... I understand more power than the current 25 watts???

Rich, you are probably referencing a post (mine) from TheHullTruth...

To be honest, Furuno doesn't disclose new product information ahead of time. I understand why... They don't want to shy anyone away from their great products waiting for the next thing.

I made the mistake of waiting for the next best thing and didn't upgrade to NXT domed radar for over a year.

The folks at Furuno might chime in, but it unlikely they have (truly) or will provide much more info.

From what I saw, there is a 12NXT and 25NXT in the pipeline. It could be soon, or it could be a year out.

Ah-ha !! ----so you're the culprit !!!

Yes.....I am waiting, at least for now. I regret getting 2 Garmin MFD's without first getting a better handle on Garmin radar. I am now thinking of changing out (at least) one screen to a 12 inch tzt touch and going with furuno x class or, preferably NXT radar...... it seems paying for this change is causing me to move slowly and see if any new developments will unfold.

And----it seems---I am also getting some pushback on the cost from my fishing partner (aka my wife).

I am in precisely the same situation. After 15 years of Furuno equipment, I put a Garmin system on my new boat. At the time, I had a pair of the very earliest versions of the TZT2 and the software was frustratingly slow to say the least and it did not support echo trails on the radar, which is what pushed me to the Garmin. Those issues are in the past now.

What isn't in the past is the really mediocre performance of the 25kW Garmin radar I have on the boat. I am thinking of swapping on of the Garmin MFDs out and replacing it with a TZT2 and getting a DRS 25AX radar.

You may have seen Furuno put out that January 18th is the new product announcement date with a gift wrapped radar sensor. They submitted a DRSA25-NXT and 12-NXT for FCC certification that looks like a 100W nominal power so we have to assume that is what will be announced -- higher powered solid state open arrays.

But will they find birds at long ranges as well as a DRSA-X 25kW magnetron radar!

So I see the unveiling of the new TZT3 and 100w and 200w NXT radar. Does anyone (Johnny Electron?) know if the 100w radar is compatible with the TZT2 series and will it be a bird finder at 5 nm?

Until the USA release of the TZT3 and the other new announced products in Germany; I am sorry we won't be much help. We can only direct you to the public information posted at NavNet.com. I will say since a person can see birds beyond 5nm with our existing DRS6ANXT, I wouldn't see why something with more power wouldn't do that and beyond.
