New finder for my B164

I'm in the market for a dedicated furuno fish finder. I have an Airmar B164, 20 degree tilted element installed in the boat, and would like to purchase the right unit (new or used) to go with the B164.....

Are there any limitations that exist by staying with this Xducer?

I generally fish in saltwater up to ~400ft, but primarily around 200'. The boat currently has a humminbird 1197 which I plan to use as a dedicated GPS/plotter, and then will turn off the sonar feature......obviously not happy with it.

If you are just looking for a stand alone machine I would lean towards the FCV-587. Just know that the B-164 is not in the 587's data base for Bottom Discrimination or the ACCU-FISH features.

Thanks, do you know if there are any plans to include other transducers (B164?) in the 587 database?

If not, do you happen to know if any of the compatible transducers are in the same format as my current through-hull B164? Just thinking forward on how easy it would be to get the right transducer....if it fit in the same hole, then it's just about $

Personally I don't think that the B-164 will be added to the list of Bottom Discrimination transducers. The 600w tilted element is, but you would be taking a step backwards performance wise. Also it is physically smaller in diameter than the B-164. So I guess the question is how important are those two features to your overall fishing needs? If it were me, I would try the 587 with the B-164 to see how well it works.

Getting back to my offseason projects. When I add the 587, do I need the MB 1100, or should I be able to plug the B164 directly into the cable/unit?

The B-164 doesn't need the MB-1100. Just make sure that is has the correct 10-pin plug for a Furuno sounder.

It should, both the tilted B-164 models that we offer have temperature capabilities.
