MFD-12 and Standard Horizon GX1850GPS

I just picked up a SH GX1850GPS which supports NMEA2000. My question is what is the best way to connect these two devices? Roughly do I need a cable from the MFD-12 to a T. One end of the T should have a terminator, the other end goes to the GX1850GPS? From what I read the MFD-12 should provide power.

Parts list:

qty 2 CAN bus light cable Male and Female 000-167-962
Micro T-connector 000-168-603
Female terminator 000-168-605

Thanks for any comments

I guess it depends on what you want it to do. The NN3D will not process AIS via 2000 (0183 only). If you want to get GPS data, then connecting by NMEA 2000 should be fine. No the MFD doesn't provide power to the bus unless you wire it up as such and then it is very limited in power for just a couple of items. If you have an established NMEA 2000 bus, you will NOT want to try powering through the MFD.

This model of VHF radio does not have AIS support so I am just looking for GPS data. Right now there are no 2000 devices connected. and I doubt I will ever add another device to the MFD.

Are the cables I posted all I need to connect this? Or am I missing something

NMEA 2000 has some basic architectural rules. You always need power to the bus. You always need to have TWO termination points. Drop cables can not exceed 6 meters in length. etc. etc. You seem to list only one terminator and that would be a problem.

If you are only going to have this one device, you can power the "Bus" via the MFD12 18 pin cable by placing 12vdc on pin 17 (+) pink input wire and putting the negative on pin 18 Light Green input wire. This will go into the machine and come out on your 5 pin NMEA 2000 port to power the "bus". With each unit having a drop cable (which you have listed), they would drop down to TWO tees. (one for each unit) The two tees connect together joining the machines on the "bus". The two remaining open connectors (each end of the bus) will need to be terminated.
