Heading - PG500 vs PG700

Installing a new system and doing the final design. New TZT2 units with 6kw DRSNXT interfacing with a FAP511 autopilot that currently has PG500 heading sensor.

I can take heading output of autopilot in NMEA 0183 to the TZT. Will that be sufficient update rate for radar overlay etc?

I can upgrade heading sensor to PG700 and output heading via TZT2 and NMEA 0183 to the FAP511.

What’s the difference in preformance of PG500 vs PG700?

What’s the better way to do this as far as preformance and functionality??

Should I be concerned about update speed of the PG500 for the TZT Radar or the pass through rate of the PG700/TZT causing autopilot wandering?

Thanks

The PG700 is a faster compensating compass. Furuno USA provides a PG700 with the Navpilot 700 series. The PG500 is an excellent compass designed for the NavPilot 500 series. I wouldn't recommend replacing the compass. You can get a simple NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 converter (like Furuno IF-NMEA2k2) to put heading from the PG500 direct to your NMEA 2000 network. You do NOT want to use the 0183 Heading from the MFD for a pilot, it isn't fast enough.
