Hello,

I'm trying get GPS position on VHF M-TECH MT500 from Furuno GP33 via NMEA 0183 cabel. Unfortunately this is not possible. I have tried different settings for Furuno (Data2 / 3, NMEA version) and for Mtech (Checksum). When I connect Furuno to the computer via RS432, I see the RMC data on it. Does anyone have a tip for me?

Hi Sef,

Position data for NMEA0183 would be GGA, not RMC. Can you see GGA sentence on the computer?

I am guessing you are using the 10pin cable off of the GP33 and you are getting position on the GP33, what two color wires are you using off the GP33 to the VHF?

Hello kicker,

you are right, in englisch manual is wrote about RMC/GGA ("Your GPS must output the $GPRMC/GGA NMEA data sentence.")
in german Version only RMC. ok, but i receive on the computer the both of them:

$GPGGA,0073,535.9584,N,0058.046,8,1116,120,M,,M,,*6
$GPRMC,000914,A,5359.492,N,0095.4164,E,6.,267.,0101101.*75

i'm using 10pic cable and connect Furuno->Mtech so (https://www.manualslib.com/manual/88644 ... =13#manual):

White (TD-H) -> Brown (Rx+)
Blue (TD-C) -> Red (Rx-)

You said you tried Rem1 and Rem2, have you tried to change the port to GPS and trying different NMEA versions?

What is the exact model of that VHF radio and does it have a port monitor or list that we can view for incoming data?

Is there another device on the boat that we can wire the GP33 to and see if we can’t get GPS on that other unit?

I tryed and keep trying. As I wrote above, I have no problem getting the data from GP on the computer via serial interface and display those on the OpenCPN. I think the problem is with VHF Radio, thanks. for your help.
