Hi, I'm considering switching from FCV587 to GP1870F. Looking at the product pages for both of them, 526TID-HDD is listed as bottom discriminating for 587 but not for 1870F. Is there particular reason for this? Thanks,

The first FCV587 software didn't include this transducer. Japan added it later under a software revision. At this time, the GP1870F doesn't include it. It is undetermined if it will ever be added to the smaller GP1670F/GP1870F unit. The suggestion has been made.

I really do not understand why Furuno is ditching owners and prospective owners of the very popular 1KW transducer 526TID-HDD / tm260 / b260 , when all it takes is some minor testing and tiny software update. Bottom discrimination and Accu-Fish is probably the number one reason I went for this fish finder. Before buying my 1870f, I had heard great things about Furuno's customer care. This issue is causing me and many others great distress, and I urge Furuno to act upon it. They say a happy customer is the best advertisement. Where does that leave an unhappy customer?

If bottom discrimination is a big focus item for a B260 customer, the FCV627 and FCV587 are available and support it. The suggestion has been placed for the GP1870F/GP1670F but doesn't mean that it will change. The GP1870F GP1670F are very low cost/value units. I don't recommend ANYONE buying a unit with dreams of features being added in the future; in hopes of saving a few bucks. If the feature is important then buy the unit that offers it; or the transducer that does support that feature on the GP1870F/GP1670F.

Unlike many companies we offer free updates and support the product for many years with parts, service, and tech support. We have won the best in support from NMEA since the award was created. We are proud of our products and what we do. I am sorry the unit makes you unhappy but it offers exactly what has been advertised. If you would rather have purchased the FCV587, and you are a Furuno USA customer within our sales and support area; please contact one of our managers. I am sure we can work out something where you can pay the retail difference and change over to the unit more fitting of your needs.
