GP-1971F external GPS antenna

Hi,
Just wondering if it is possible to connect an external GPS receiver to a GP 1971F?
If so what model should I purchase,

Almost any GPS. It can come in either on NMEA0183 or NMEA2000. On the N0183 input you can only connect one device (talker), and the input could be taken already by an AIS Receiver or some other device. An AIS transponder on the other hand would give you good GPS data from its own GPS.
On N2000 there could be multiple data sources and your plotter allows to select data sources from what is available.
